I was a teacher here for 2 years between oct 2021 and oct 2023 and strongly advise against practicing at this studio. Most of the people who practice here are lovely but the teachers (specifically Jude, Angela and to a lesser degree Claire) are power trippy and with the former 2 being nasty right to their cores. They are more interested in having you follow them than your wellbeing and while they lack genuine knowledge they will likely feed into your insecurities to try convince you that what they deliver will help you in some way (it wont and its not that you cant handle the heat its that the CO2 levels in that room are dangerously high and there is inadequate ventilation i.e its not good for you). Jude and Angela, who amount to no more than high school bullies, yet their charisma means many adults listen to the misinformation that comes out of their mouths and they fail to recognise that the way they speak about other teachers and at times students amounts to nothing more than bullying. There are good reasons that twice this studio was not sold to Jude - those who know her in the Bikram world are well aware of her malicious nature but far too many people let there own insecurities and need to feel validated prevent them from seeing who she truly is. I would recommend trying other studios where you can learn in a safe and respectful environment.
-> there is no chance of ever finding me teaching here or practicing bikram yoga again ;)
Professional and competent yoga teachers. They recognise the challengers and strengths of fellow students. Giving constructive feedback(if you want feedback), also allowing the class to take their time on individual progress/journey/healing. I have loved every class I have been to since beginning of this year. Thank you team
5-Star Review for Yoga for the People, Wellington
Yoga for the People is a gem in the heart of Wellington! With 25 classes a week, ranging from beginner-friendly 45-minute sessions to the traditional full 90-minute practice, this studio stands out among the rest. The heat and humidity create the perfect environment for stretching ligaments and muscles, enhancing flexibility, and promoting recovery.
After 10 consecutive days of practice, I noticed incredible improvements in mobility, tone, and overall fitness. Yoga here has helped me prepare for more demanding disciplines and maintain agility--especially important for aging bodies to stay ready for life's unexpected movements.
What truly sets this studio apart is the warmth and kindness of the instructors. Claire, Rhys, Wan, and Anthea (...) bring such positive energy to each class, making it a joy to return daily. This studio is more than a workout; it's a place for realignment, both physically and spiritually.
If you're new to hot yoga, don't be discouraged by the heat--it becomes your ally with time. I wholeheartedly recommend Yoga for the People to anyone seeking balance, strength, and rejuvenation in their life.
Great studio! Lovely People, fair prices, hot shower, complex parking but free for 90min,
very recommend
YfP's teachers approach to guiding participants through yoga practice is the best I've experienced in Australasia. Their expert technical knowledge make classes pleasurable. Their teachers adjust to all ability levels!
Claire and the YfP team's warm encouragement to show up keeps me coming back. Classes are suitable for everyone. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. Nau mai, haere ki tenei wahi! | Welcome, come to this place!
Yoga for the People is such a great place to practice yoga. The teachers are professional, caring, remember who you are and the classes are focused, enabling you to practice your yoga, shower and head back to your day or night. I've been going for a couple of years and am grateful to be part of the Yoga for the People community.
I joined the 10 days pass for newbies. This is absolutely awesome! Because with a very reasonable price you get the chance to meet several yoga teachers and experience the different classes offered along the week. You also have the chance to meet participants and to be part of the nice group atmosphere of Yoga for the People.
In each class, there is a good balance of challenge and self care, so you gradually improve without injuries. All in all a great place to practice yoga regularly.
Great studio i visited on a recent trip to Wellington. Very welcoming and professional teacher. Will definitely return on my next stay and make use of the travel package.
