Satwik School of Yoga and Meditation

Wow! Everyone needs to practice yoga here at least once. The shala overlooks the ocean and the classes are absolutely amazing. Come here for a sunrise/sunset class and then go eat at their vegan cafe (Avocado Cafe) in the back, you won't regret it. Delicious! Keep up the great work, Namaste.

There is no better place to practice yoga!!!! Not only is the breezy, open-air yoga shala overlooking the beautiful beaches of Varkala, the teachers are incredible - no surprise as some come from India's heart of yoga, Rishikesh. I recently spent a week practicing twice a day at Satwik (Hatha and Ashtanga, and some bonus classes on the beach from Satwik) and feel my understanding, especially of Ashtanga and alignment improved 100%, even though I had already completed a 200h teacher training in Rishikesh. Satwik's talented, encouraging, knowledgeable and, above all, gracious teachers offer students - whether experienced or new - a unique opportunity to practice yoga asana and meditation in a gorgeous setting, while enjoying vegan meals (smoothie bowls that look and taste like art in a lovely garden behind the shala) and excellent accommodation, particularly if you visit Satwik on one of the package deals they offer. My only regret is not being able to stay longer! As long as Satwik is in Varkala, I know I'll have another exceptional place to practice yoga in India (outside Rishikesh) with the bonus of beachside living. Can't wait to return! One of the most interesting places in India I've seen so far. I would highly recommend to take the time and explore the place. Therefore the daily yoga philosophy classes which are free of charge might me a good start.

The special loving energy attracted us straight to this place very randomly. Best prayanama and Hatha I have had. The Shala view is simply mind blowing. The beauty of the sea view and birds combined with the deep teachings has been truly healing for me.

I stopped in Varkala for what I thought would be 3 days, but upon discovering Satwik and the beautiful teachers and pupils who were involved at this shala, I ended up moving into one of the owner's homestays and staying a further 2 weeks. And what a transformative process it has been for me! I was challenged, we went deeply into yogic philosophy, I learned to let go of much of my Western obsession of the past and future and just focus on being in the moment. My time at Satwik has been life-changing. Perhaps it was a matter of right-place-right-time, I don't know, but I do know that something has deeply shifted and transformed within me. And most importantly - that view! That shala with the ocean in front of it... beyond heavenly!
